Horseshoe Bend gets two wins vs. Coosa

The Horseshoe Bend Generals swept Central-Coosa in double-header action, winning game one 3-2 and dominating the Cougars 10-0 in game two.
In game one, the Generals managed to threaten in each inning, but until the sixth inning couldn’t break through.
“We left runners on base in every inning,” said HBHS baseball coach Jason Johnson. “We finally put a few hits together in the sixth.”
Major Abernathy got his first win of the season, striking out 10 in a complete game effort.
He has thrown three complete games this season.
“He’s been throwing his butt off,” Johnson said. “He’s 1-3, but he should be 4-0. We haven’t made enough defensive plays behind him.”
In game two, the offense didn’t struggle at all.
“We hit the ball really well,” Johnson said. “It never was close, and we had control the whole way. We have to be more consistent. In the Handley tournament, we beat Woodland and lost to Clay-Central and Cleburne County, but we had the lead in those games. We have to learn to close the deal.”
