RMC to raffle off 20-foot pontoon boat for Relay

Published 8:49pm Wednesday, February 26, 2014

The Russell Medical Center (RMC) Relay for Life team is taking this year’s fundraising theme, Cruisin’ for a Cure, seriously; they are selling chances to win a 2014 20-foot Sweetwater pontoon boat with a 70 horse-power engine.

“Tickets were distributed to employees on Tuesday, and already several have come back to me and asked for more tickets to sell,” said Patty Hamrick, Relay for Life team captain for RMC. “Tickets are $10, and they are available from hospital employees.”

Hamrick said the team hopes to sell 3,000 chances to win the boat, raising $30,000 for the American Cancer Society’s local Relay for Life campaign.

“We just thought the boat was a great way to interpret this year’s theme of ‘Cruisin’ for a Cure,’ because we are so close to Lake Martin,” Hamrick said.

In previous years, RMC has launched as many as 16 teams, each representing a different department of the hospital, with each team hosting a separate fundraiser. Hamrick said the departments are joining together this year in one team with “one really phenomenal fundraiser.”

A photo of the boat has been posted on the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Tallapoosa County, Ala., Facebook page.

The name of the boat’s winner will be drawn at 8 p.m. on May 9, during the annual Relay for Life event at the Charles E. Bailey, Jr. Sportplex in Alexander City.
