Lady Generals down Beulah, boys fall to 1-9

A rough second-half from the Horseshoe Bend Generals was too much to overcome versus Beulah, as the Generals fell to 1-9 on the year after a 64-35 loss to the Bobcats.
Cody Denham led the team with 13 points. Antwan Hardnett added nine.
“We played pretty good in the first half, but we couldn’t match them depth-wise,” said Generals basketball coach Mike Boyd.
After facing a 39-26 deficit heading into the fourth, Beulah’s fourth-quarter outburst put the game away.
“I can’t really complain with the team,” Boyd said. “They give me everything they’ve got each night. But the numbers Beulah had hurt us.”

Amber Hardnett scored 19 points to power the Lady Generals over Beulah High School to the tune of 46-31.  The victory stops a five-game losing streak as the Lady Generals improved to 4-6 on the season.
“We played a lot better than they did when we went to (Beulah’s) place (a 47-38 loss),” Boyd said.
Zakkiah Lyons added nine points to help Horseshoe Bend’s cause. Boyd said that since the team’s loss to Dadeville in the Pepsi Classic, he has found that simplifying the offense  has helped the team improve.
“We started making things a little simpler  versus Dadeville,” he said. “It seemed to work, so we’re going to work on keeping it simple in hopes that it helps with keeping turnovers down and things like that.”
