Wednesday wreck claims life of Kellyton woman

A late afternoon wreck claimed the life of a Kellyton woman Wednesday.

The wreck occurred at the 2500 block of Hwy. 22 West around 5:28 p.m.

According to the Alexander City Police, a Chrysler 300, driven by Mary Benson, 62, collided head-on with a F-150, Driven by Tim Whitehead, 53, also of Alexander City.

Benson was transported to Russell Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Capt. Mario Hodge said that detectives will perform a traffic homicide investigation to determine the exact cause of the wreck, which is standard procedure for all fatal accidents.

No further information was available as of press time.

Funeral arrangements for Benson will be announced later by Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home.

    Hwy 22 West is probably the most dangerous road in Alex. City right now. Thank you to the State of Alabama and Tony Ingram Paving, at night when it rains… you have NO IDEA where the center line is or where the edge of the pavement is.
