Event raises $5K for United Way

More than 150 Dadeville area residents enjoyed dinner, dancing and music while raising money for a good cause Saturday night at the Denim and Diamonds Ball sponsored by the Dadeville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees enjoyed dancing to the music of saxophonist Tom Gassaway and the group Second Coming at the Lake Martin Events Center at the Rodeo Club, and browsing the many items available at the silent auction table. Chamber Executive Director Betty Litsey called Denim and Diamonds “tremendously successful.”
“Everyone seemed to have a good time and we raised a lot of money for a very good cause,” she said. “United Way does so much for the community, so we have to do whatever we can to thank and support them.”
The Lake Martin Area United Way helps fund the operations of dozens of charitable and service organizations in the Dadeville and Tallapoosa County area. The Denim and Diamonds Ball, Litsey said, raised around $5,000.
That was almost twice the United Way donation made possible by last year’s Black and White Ball.
“We’ve really focused this year on being a more hands-on chamber and we’ve seen that throughout this year,” said Chamber President Michael Carter.
“This was an unspoken ‘thank you’ to the citizens and businesses for all they’ve done, as well as a great chance to help the United Way.”
Sharon Fuller, executive director of the Lake Martin Area United Way, said she was overwhelmed at the turnout and how great the venue looked.
Fresh off the latest fundraising update — 77 percent of the campaign’s $555,000 goal — Fuller said she was excited to see that percentage going even higher.
The Central Alabama Community College Ambassadors served dinner to the revelers.
Piggly Wiggly provided a delicious steak dinner for all ticket-holders.
The silent auction, she said, raised more than $3,000.
“We just want to thank everyone who donated and everyone who brought something,” Litsey said. “The silent auction had some of the most fabulous things.”
