Cougars enter 2013-14 in need of top scorer

Published 10:34am Thursday, November 21, 2013

The Cougars of Central High School – Coosa County will enter this season as the defending Class 3A, Area 5 champions, and most of that team –including four starters from last season – will take the hardwood for coach Joe Belyeu.
However, the Cougars will have to defend that title without Xavier Moon, the unquestioned leader of the team in years past as well as the bulk of the team’s scoring offense.
As a result, the Cougars will need someone to take the reins as the alpha dog if they have any designs on continuing the hardwood success that CHSCC has become accustomed to under the direction of Belyeu.
David McKinney is the team’s top returning scorer (6.1 ppg, 58 percent field goal shooting) and shot blocker. Top rebounder and emotional leader Tre Royal also returns, and with Quin Robbins and TyJustin Gaddis in the backcourt, the Cougars should be strong in terms of experience.
