County board of education names 2013-14 officers

The Tallapoosa County Board of Education elected its officers for the upcoming year at its annual meeting Tuesday.

The board elected Martin Johnson to continue on as board chairman for the upcoming year, and Randy Anderson was elected as board vice chairman.

“I’d just like to say one thing: I’ve been board chairman before, but I think this has been a great board,” Johnson said. “I enjoy working with the members of this board. I’d just like to say thank you.”

Anderson said this board in particular has been successful in its work.

“I agree 100 percent. I think we’ve gotten more accomplished with this group than we have – and I’ve been here the longest – than any other group that we’ve worked with,” Anderson said. “I’m proud call myself a part of it.”

During Tuesday’s meeting, the board also held open

open session for parents and community members to address the board.

Approved Regions, PNC and PrimeSouth banks as official depositories of the Tallapoosa County Board of Education

Approved purchase order form for Edward Bell Career Technical Center per board policy

Recognized board member Matilda Woodyard-Hamilton for completion of the Alabama Association of School Boards academy of achieve master level four

The board’s next work session is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. in the superintendent’s office.

The next board meeting will be held on Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. in the Tallapoosa County Extension office auditorium.
