The family of a cadet who was found dead at Lyman Ward Military Academy Feb, 5, 2012 has released a statement.
Though neither the school nor the family have released the name or cause of death of the cadet, the father released this statement Monday, which is also posted to the LWMA website.
“This is a tragic accident for a happy boy who was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for being a great son, a proud cadet, and a friend to everyone he met,” the father said. “We appreciate the faculty, staff and cadets of Lyman Ward Military Academy for their support and the work that they do.”
According to the posting on LWMA’s web site, is respecting the wishes of the family by not discussing the “accidental and tragic death on campus.”
The Corps of Cadets held at Memorial service at Dr. Ward’s church in Camp Hill and a group of his closest brother cadets attended his funeral in the cadet’s hometown.
Police confirmed that the juvenile was found dead at the school when the event first occurred but have not released detail as to the cause of death.
The deceased cadet’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
