Respect your government

Published 8:21pm Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Dear Editor,
Ah, I get it … it’s the world according to Woody.  But folks, don’t be concerned about the man behind the curtain. The Great Oz has spoken.
Woody, as expected, you missed the point.  It’s likely that most readers know where you stand on the big bad government and probably don’t need to hear more from you. Just give it a rest, please.
By the way, here is the U.S. Army Oath of Enlistment that you and I both took years ago.  “I, (name) do solemly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.  So help me God.”
A cursory read of those regulations and the UCMJ makes it implicit that respect to the President is required of soldiers.  No options.  Guess you forgot that part.
Woody, I’m glad you got this off your chest and hope you feel better.  As for me, I’m out of here before your blood pressure goes even higher.  Have a nice day.
