Justin Woolfolk ran for three scores and Joshua Thomas accounted for two more to lead Montgomery Academy (6-1, 4-1 Class 2A Region 5) to a 38-7 win over Reeltown (4-3, 3-2)at McLemore Field. .
The Eagles tallied two touchdowns in the first period. Thomas scored on a 1-yard run with 6:45 to go, and Woolfolk took it across from the five with 1:36 remaining.
Montgomery Academy continued its run in the second stanza. Woolfolk carried for a TD on a 4-yard run at the 7:36 mark.
Then as time ran out in the half, Samuel Adams connected on a 23-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 24-0 lead at intermission.
In the third quarter, Bennett Rutledge hauled in a 32-yard Thomas 32-yard pass with 1:22 left. Woolfolk finished off the Eagles’ scoring with a 3-yard run with 11:21 remaining in the game.
The Rebel’s lone score came on a 2-yard rush by Cody Martin with 5:37 still on the clock.
Reeltown will host Isabella next week while Montgomery Academy will play Lanett.
“I thought we were ready to play, but I misread our players,” said Rebels coach Jackie O’Neal. “We didn’t play well.”
Several Reeltown players missed the game due to injuries, but O’Neal said that was not an excuse.
“If you’re a player you should look for opportunities to play,” he said.
“You’ve got other kids that have to step up and we didn’t do that.”
