Lake Martin Invitational sells most tickets in history

Published 6:43pm Monday, October 7, 2013

The fifteenth annual Lake Martin Invitational was a rousing success, according to Benjamin Russell High School band director Dale Bloodworth.
“We had well more than 2,000 participants – we sold more tickets at the gate than we ever have,” Bloodworth said. “It was very successful.”
Factoring in parents and other volunteers, Bloodworth said the band competition brought some 6,000 individuals into the city.
LMI is one of the band’s largest fundraisers, but Bloodworth said it doesn’t only benefit the band.
“This event brings a lot of people through town,” Bloodwotth said “We sold every one of our programs. I am really excited for what it meant for us this year but also what it meant for the city.”
A total of 15 bands participated in the event. Bloodworth said that LMI features top quality judges, and bands leave with feedback that can benefit these bands in the future.
“Our contest gives them a very thorough assessment of their band – it gives great input on where the program is and insight on how to improve what they are doing,” Bloodworth said. “We hire judges who are experienced teachers – that is part of the allure.”
A variety of awards were doled out at the conclusion of the event.
