Business as usual: Cats improve to 29-4 after tourney win

The Benjamin Russell Wildcats have found their groove on the volleyball court, as they pushed their win streak to 17 straight matches after coming up trumps in this past weekend’s Smiths Station tournament.
BRHS beat UMS-Wright in the semifinals and Prattville in the finals.
In addition to piling up the wins, the Lady ‘Cats are climbing AL.com’s top 10 rankings, as they are now No. 4 in Class 5A.
Furthermore, BRHS setter Aaliyah Lawson was named AL.com player of the week for her performance during the past week’s matches.
“We’ve started to click,” said BRHS volleyball coach Pam Robinson. “The kids were disappointed in their play during the Auburn/John Carroll home series. Since then, they’ve kicked up the focus and intensity. We still have some things to work on, but they’re playing very well.”
While the Wildcats have made it look easy on the court as of late, Robinson said the team knows it is anything but.
She added that the team hasn’t lost sight of the season’s goals.
“We work hard,” Robinson said. “Everyday, we fine-tune the  little things. The kids understand what our weaknesses are, and they want to do well. But they know that our ranking, all of the wins and things like that don’t matter come playoff time. If you don’t play well, you go down. They know they they have to bring it every single time, and we will be ready for that.”
BRHS will be back in action Tuesday as they host area opponent Marbury and Jeff Davis in a doubleheader.
