Citywide yard sale to be offered free of charge Oct. 19

After the success of a citywide yard sale in the spring, organizers have decided to offer a fall yard sale as well.
Danny Pike, with the Alexander City Sewer Department, said that the sale will be held at the Sportplex football field parking lot Oct. 19 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“This will give everyone the opportunity to set up and sell for free – there are no charges whatsoever,” Pike said. “It will be a good chance for people to clean up a little for the fall.”
Pike said all fees have been waived for the event, which the city plans to hold twice annually. The city will make no money off the event.
“This is strictly for the people  – it is something the city feels might be good for everybody,” Pike said
Pike said that the spaces will be free, but citizens will need to bring all the necessary items to set up, such as tables, chairs or a pop-up tent.
Promise Land Family Worship Center will have youth on-site selling concessions. Proceeds will go toward an upcoming mission trip.
Pike said he has been involved in three citywide yard sales, and all three have seen good attendance.
“We have an average of 50-75 people selling,” Pike said, adding that the people came from as far as Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. “There is always a wide variety of items, everything from antiques to new items. Most anything you can think of, you will find there.”
Pike asked that those interested contact him so he can get an idea of how many people will be in attendance. He said he would also be able to ask any additional questions. Pike can be reached at 256-496-0024.
