Austin Nelson has been promoted from news editor to managing editor of The Alexander City Outlook, General Manager Virginia Spears announced Wednesday.
Nelson joined the Tallapoosa Publishers Inc. family in July 2011.
“During the past two years, I have enjoyed listening to and telling the stories of this community and its people,” Nelson said. “Community newspapers still have a place in this world. I look forward to continuing to gather and report the news that is important to Alexander City.”
Spears, who formerly served as both managing editor and general manager, will now serve in an advisory role in the newsroom, focusing on moving all of Tallapoosa Publishers’ five newspapers and four magazines forward.
“Austin has been an integral part of our newsroom, and I couldn’t be more comfortable with him assuming this role. I know he will continue to be a leader in our newsroom and within the community,” Spears said.
Nelson said he welcomes feedback from the community on ways to continue making The Outlook a valuable news source.
“I have an open door policy, and anyone can feel free to call me here at the office,” Nelson said. “I would love to hear from any readers so we can continue to provide content that is interesting and relevant to our community.”
Nelson graduated from Auburn University in 2009 with a degree in journalism and a minor in English. He first worked as a reporter for the Greenville Advocate before moving to TPI.
