Turner has been in the ministry since 1987, but he said he didn’t set out in life to be a pastor.
“It found me,” Turner said. “It wasn’t something I always wanted to do, just something God called me to do.”
Prior to answering the call to ministry in 1987, Turner said he worked for AutoZone.
Turner has a wife and two children, including a daughter who lives in Savannah, Ga. and a son who is currently a student at University of North Alabama in Florence.
Though Turner is still looking for a house in the area, he is already feeling quite at home.
“I grew up on a lake, so the lake here is very comforting,” Turner said.
And despite growing up in Tennessee Volunteers country, Turner said he is an avid Alabama fan, which came from growing up during Tuscaloosa’s Bear Bryant years.
Turner received his doctorate in Christian Ministry from the Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies in Jacksonville, Fla. Turner said he is looking forward to leading a new church.
“I think this church has a great future,” Turner said. “We are anticipating some good things.’
