The Benjamin Russell Wildcats volleyball team continued its strong start to the season after downing Carver High School (Montgomery) this past Tuesday.
The Lady Wildcats swept through the Lady Wolverines of Carver High in three straight games.
BRHS won the first two games relatively handily, coming out on top 25-17 in game one and 25-18 in game two.
In the third game, BRHS needed a little extra to pull it out. The Lady ‘Cats won it 29-27.
“It was an interesting battle,” said BRHS volleyball coach Pam Robinson. “At the end of the second set, Carver’s entire football team came in and sat right behind our bench. It got a little intense, but the girls played well.”
Jernika Russell, Alexis Flowers and Chloe Owens led BRHS with seven kills each during the match.
Aaliyah Lawson led the team with 15 assists. Russell added six assists and also had three blocks.
Lawson added two blocks to go with her high assist total.
With the victory, Benjamin Russell’s record on the year stands at 7-2.
Thursday, the Lady Wildcats will try to improve on their record when they travel to Jefferson Davis High School (Montgomery) to face the Lady Vols and Montgomery Academy. BRHS’ next home match will be Sept. 10 against Chilton County and Elmore County.
