Lake Martin Living photography, art contest is back

Published 5:10pm Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Lake Martin Living magazine is now accepting entries for this year’s Art and Photography Contest. The winning entry will be featured on the cover of the October edition, and the inside pages of the issue will feature the editors’ favorite entries. All submission also will be on exhibit at Alexander City’s Wine Emporium and Gallery 128 from Oct. 1 through 26, and patrons there can vote for the People’s Choice winner from Oct. 1 through Oct. 5.
Submissions will be accepted in acrylics, watercolor, pastels, pencil and photography. All entries must reflect life and scenes in Tallapoosa, Coosa or Elmore counties. All entries must be framed, matted or mounted on boards and ready to hang. The contest is open to artists of any age. There is no fee to enter, and no prizes or monetary awards will be made. The contest is just for fun! A panel of local artists will judge the entries.
Each artist may submit up to three works of art, which is a change from previous years, said the magazine’s managing editor, Betsy Iler.
“In previous years, each artist could submit five entries, but this year we will limit that number to three. The contest is growing in popularity, and last year we barely had enough space to hang all of the entries. With this change, we hope to accommodate more artists,” she said.
Last year’s contest featured 64 works of art by 20 area artists. Betty Carroll of Auburn took first place with her oil painting entitled “Oso,” a portrait of Lake Martin’s surfing dog.
To submit an entry, bring your artwork to the offices of Tallapoosa Publishers, Inc., on or before Sept. 20. The office is located at 548 Cherokee Road, Alexander City, across from Benjamin Russell High School. Clearly mark the back of each entry with the artist’s name, address and telephone number.
View the entries and cast your votes for the People’s Choice award Oct. 1-5 during normal business hours at Wine Emporium and Gallery 128, which is located at 128 Calhoun Street, Alexander City, next door to The Shoppes of Queen’s Attic. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Winners will be announced in the October edition of Lake Martin Living magazine, which is available by subscription or free of charge at your favorite local merchants after the 15th of each month. Entries will remain on exhibit through Oct. 26, and artists should retrieve their artwork from Wine Emporium/Gallery 128 by Nov. 9.
Neither Lake Martin Living nor Wine Emporium/Gallery 128 are responsible for artwork entered in the contest, and they reserve the right to withdraw any entry from exhibit for any reason.
