Published 5:33pm Wednesday, August 28, 2013

During New Site’s town council meeting,  New Site Police officer Philip Weddle discussed a resolved threat at Horseshoe Bend School last week.
“The second day of school, we had an arrest for terrorist threats at the school that were put on Facebook after school that named five students and a teacher individually that he was going to kill with a gun,” Weddle said. “The problem has been taken care of, he’s out of school and in East Alabama in a psych ward.”
The Town of New Site Council also settled on accounts to handle its upcoming audit and rescheduled an upcoming recreational tournament at Monday’s meeting.
The council discussed quotes from accountants interested in performing the town audit for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
The council voted to stay with Hare & Dunlap CPA Group PCA of Alexander City, which performed the town’s 2011-2012 fiscal year audit for $5,700.
The football and cheerleading Horseshoe Tourney at Recreational Park was rescheduled for September 21 at 10 a.m. The tournament was originally scheduled for Aug. 17, but had to be rescheduled because of inclement weather.
During the meeting, the council also:
ordered new gun law signs for New Site Town Hall that will cost $47.45
announced that its 1966 Mack Pumper Fire Truck that was sold on govdeals.com was picked up on Aug. 14
announced that its CDs at BB&T will mature on Aug. 18 and will be moved to Aliant Bank
announced that New Site Town Hall will be closed on Sept. 2 for Labor Day.
