Alexander City Gymnastics holds mock meet

Published 1:42pm Thursday, August 15, 2013

Alexander City Gymnastics geared up for the 2013 competitive season with its first annual mock-meet last Friday evening.
The event took place at the gymnastics center with the an Old New Orleans theme, including great Jazz music, free food, festive decorations, and New Orleans-style door prizes donated by Artisan Framing Company.
“A mock-meet is literally a formal practice competition,” said ACPR gymnastics coach David Coleman. “There are no scores, only lots of cheering and happy faces. It is an event that I wanted to host for my athletes and their parents.”
According to Coleman, the event helps to ready the gymnasts for what they could encounter during actual meets.
“I like to have them well prepared for every detail they will encounter at a real competition,” he said. “Many of our gymnasts are first-time competitors, and it is important to me that they look and feel confident.”
