City approves request for twice-yearly yard sale

Published 1:54pm Tuesday, July 16, 2013

The city heard from Danny Pike Monday, and agreed to allow Pike to organize a twice-yearly yard sale after the success of this year’s event at the Sportplex.

“We had a great turnout and would love to continue it and try to make it an annual thing, fall and spring,” Pike said. “We had about 50-75 vendors on May 31. I think this will be a great thing for the city.”

District 4 Councilman Billy Wall asked Pike if the event would confliuct with the annual yard sale in Santuck. Pike said that it wouldn’t, and that the fall date would not interfere with Oktoberfest either.

District 6 Councilman Tony Goss lauded the effort.

“I think it is a great thing to do,” Goss said. “This is just another tool we have to bring the community together.”

The council also:

- annexed property in an area formally known as the Russell Complex

- authorized the mayor to execute a grant agreement for the design engineering for the Parallel Taxiway Extension and the PCN Study

- declared the following items as no longer needed and authorized the mayor to dispose of them:

2007 Dodge Charger PPV

1993 Ford F350

1988 GMC 4×4 Truck

2007 Dodge Charge PPV

1995 Ford Tractor 7840

1997 Ford Crown Victoria

- accepted a bid from Thompson Tractor, of Opelika, for the purchase of a mini-excavator and a trailer for the shop-pool department. The bid is not to exceed $50,471.
