Great Bethel hosts cancer awareness event

Published 10:47am Friday, July 12, 2013

Dear editor,

A former native of Alexander City, Wanda Chambliss Daniels presented a dynamic and unique presentation Celebration on Cancer Awareness Saturday, July 6 at Great Bethel Baptist Church in Alexander City.

Seventeen years ago on July 6, Wanda was diagnosed with breast cancer, and today she is living a beautiful life with her husband Clarence, travelling, encouraging and giving others hope who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or any other form of cancer.

The fellowship hall at Great Bethel decoration and accessories were of pink, and participants were presented with pink ribbons as they entered the gala event. Many wore pink attire. Cancer survivors were presented with gifts.

Wanda is the daughter of Alma Chambliss and it was great to see a mother be able to introduce and welcome her surviving daughter and others to an occasion that enabled the community to gain a wealth of knowledge to help others who have battles with cancer or had family members or friends diagnosed and died. Also, materials were discussed and early intervention methods were distributed.

The presentation, songs, prayers and praise echoed how great God is and that cancer or any other disease is no match against Go’s healing and sustaining power.

Wanda’s Biblical theme is “No weapon formed against you shall prosper and you will refute every tongue that speaks against you,” from Isaiah 54:17.

Well done, Wanda, and all of those who worked diligently for the celebration.

God speed,

Teresa Harrell Moten
