Making a splash: Crush strong in sub-districts

With district swim meets looming, the Alexander City Crush swim team needed a strong performance during this past weekend’s sub-district meet with Talladega and Tallassee.
Judging by the numerous top-five finishes earned by various team members, the Crush is heading into those district meets in tip-top shape.
Six swimmers earned the top slots in their respective meets.
The girls 8U 100-meter medley relay team earned first place with a time of 2:22.
The girls 8U 100-meter freestyle relay team finished second with a time of 2:02.44.
Carley Forbus won three events during the day.
Forbus garnered victories in the girls 8U 25-meter freestyle, the girls 8U 25-meter breaststroke and the girls 8U 100-meter individual medley finals.
Chloe Davis won the the girls 8U 25-meter backstroke, and she finished third in both the girls 8U 25-meter freestyle and the girls 8U 25-meter butterfly final.
Charlie Cotney secured top-five finishes in the girls 8U 25-meter freestyle, the girls 8U 25-meter breaststroke and the girls 8U 25-meter backstroke.
Paxton Templin earned two second-place finishes, one in the girls 18U 50-meter freestyle and the other in girls 18U 50-meter backstroke.
Carolina Nieto won second place in the girls 10U 50-meter breaststroke and finished third in the girls 10U 50-meter freestyle. She finished fifth in the girls 10U 50-meter backstroke.
Erin McMichen earned top-five placings in the girls 14U 50-meter freestyle, the girls 14U 50-meter backstroke and the girls  14U 100-meter individual medley.
Christa Schryrers won the girls 12U 50-meter backstroke, finished second in the girls 12U 100-meter individual medley and was fourth in the girls 14U 50-meter breaststroke.
For the boys, Jackson Tucker and George Ammons were the bright spots.
Tucker finished second in the 12U 50-meter freestyle, third in the 12U 50-meter breaststroke and second in the 12U 50-meter backstroke.
Ammons was second in the 10U 50-meter breaststroke, the 50-meter freestyle and the 50-meter backstroke.
