Courthouse to offer additional day of service

Published 2:41pm Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Beginning June 14, the Alexander City annex of the county courthouse will be offering probate services on Fridays.

“It’s going to cut down on the standing in line in Dadeville,” said Probate Judge Leon Archer.

With the recent hiring of a new tag clerk, Archer said he now has the manpower to run the Alexander City office on Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The new hours will supplement the office’s current schedule, Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dadeville will retain its regular hours – 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“This was something that came up on the campaign trail,” Archer said. “It’s going to be better for both offices.”

Archer said having the additional hours in Alexander City will benefit Alexander City residents – who will be more able to avoid the drive to Dadeville – as well as probate office employees, whose workload will be spread over more people and more office days.

Archer said he is proud and excited to offer the additional hours and thanked the county commission for working with him to provide the service.
