HBHS holding third annual alumni gamePublished 2:38pm Friday, May 17, 2013
Tonight, Horseshoe Bend High School will get a blast from the past.
HBHS is hosting its third-annual alumni football game at Horseshoe Bend stadium.
The game will be contested between former gridiron greats from HBHS and the former New Site school.
“We’re going as far back as we can,” said HBHS head football coach and game supervisor Jason Franklin. “If you’ve graduated from New Site school, or you’ve graduated from Horseshoe Bend, you’re eligible to play. Even if you graduated this past year.”
According to Franklin, the game is not only a chance for alums to catch up with one another, but also to increase their presence within the Horseshoe Bend football team.
“We want to get some of the older guys back so they can be involved with the Generals’ program,” he said. “We want them to see what we’re doing here, and we want them to know that good things are happening.”
Admission for the event is $3. Concessions will be sold and overall, the game is expected to have a competitive feel to it.
“Oh, they take it very serious,” Franklin said of the participants. “When they put the pads on, they treat it like a serious game for all four quarters. When the game ends they go back to being friendly, but until then, it’s all business.”
Gametime is scheduled for 7 p.m.
“We’re looking at this as a good, entertaining affair,” Franklin said. “This is a chance to showcase what we have here. It’s good for the football team for the alums to be involved.”
