Say thanks to childcare provider

Published 10:53am Thursday, May 9, 2013

Dear Editor,

On April 17, 2013, Governor Robert Bentley signed a proclamation proclaiming May 10, 2013 as Childcare Provider’s Appreciation Day. He urges all citizens to recognize childcare providers for the important work that they do.

Childcare providers help keep Alabama working by providing a safe, nurturing environment for parents to leave their children. Without the peace of mind that your child is in a safe environment, parents would not be able to perform their jobs productively.

Childcare providers fill in the gap as extended family for those women who have no family around to help them.

Finally, the childcare provider is essential in preparing children for public school.

Yet, the childcare provider is not honored as a professional business, even though the provider is the person who begins molding young lives from birth just as the parents do.

A famous writer said, “Everything I needed to know, I learned in kindergarten.” Daycare lays the foundation for that phase because it is the foundation for a child’s education and morals.

So, along with the governor, let us celebrate the great work of childcare providers as they nurture our most valuable resources: our children.
