City to participate in widest yard sale

Published 11:08am Thursday, May 9, 2013

Alexander City is getting in on the World’s Widest Yard Sale.

After the success of connecting to the World’s Longest Yard Sale in August of 2012, Danny Pike said he wanted to help facilitate connecting to the Highway 80 yard sale, May 31 and June 1.

Citizens can call Pike to reserve booth space at the Sportplex.

“Shoppers can come to one area instead of trying to go to all the little narrow streets,” Pike said.

Setting up at the Sportplex is free and space is unlimited.

The 127 Connect to the World’s Longest Yard Sale drew people from as far away as Florida, Pike said.

“We had a really great turnout,” Pike said. “Everybody I’ve talked to said they wanted to come back and do it again.”

Pike said people can set up Thursday afternoon if they want or Friday or Saturday. The sale will begin at 6 a.m.

Local yard sales connecting to Highway 80 will be set up along Lee Street, Cherokee Road, Dadeville Road, down U.S. Highway 280 and will continue down Highway 49 to Highway 80.

“Everybody last year seemed to make a pretty good profit,” Pike said. “If we have beautiful weather, we’ll have a better turnout.”

BRHS will have a concession stand at the Sportplex to sell breakfast and lunch foods. Pike said people may sell baked goods but may not compete with BRHS.

Call Pike at 256-496-0024 to reserve a booth or find out more information.
