Trojans golf wins ACCC crownPublished 10:43am Wednesday, May 8, 2013
The No. 1 golf team in the NJCAA is also the No. 1 golf team in the Alabama Community College Conference.
The Central Alabama Community College Trojans won the ACCC golf championship recently, beating out Wallace State and Faulkner State for the crown at Point Mallard Park in Decatur.
CACC dominated the field during the three-round tournament, as its team’s round-by-round scores were at least 10 strokes better than any round carded by the competition.
The Trojans shot an 834 for the tournament, which was good for 30 under par. CACC’s team was the only squad to shoot under par at any point during the tournament.
In the second round, the Trojans carded a tourney-low 271.
Individually, CACC’s golfers were all over the top spots.
CACC’s Baxter Reeves took home individual honors, finishing with an 11 under par for the tournament.
Tim Walker, also of the Trojans, finished second with a three-round score of 208, good for eight under par.
Central Alabama’s Andrew Klasing earned third-place by shooting a 210, which was good enough for six under par, and Alex Mahlik finished fourth with a 211 for the tourney. Mahlik’s score was five under par.
J.M. O’Toole finished eighth in the event, shooting a 220. His score was four over par.
With the win, the Trojans punched their ticket for the NJCAA Division I men’s national championship tournament.
This will be played from May 12-17 at Texas Tech University’s The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.
