Jazz Fest to feature table decorating contest

Published 12:14pm Wednesday, May 8, 2013

Jazz Fest draws people out each year for food, fun and funky tunes along with another yearly tradition – the table decorating contest.

This year’s theme is A Night to Remember.

“When we think about how this one night has impacted our community over the years – the memories, reunions and good times we have had – every year has truly been a night to remember,” said Jazz Fest Chairman Henry Foy. “Jazz Fest has been a big part of our identity for more than two decades.”

Foy said sponsors and the general public are encouraged to decorate their tables to reflect the spirit of the theme.

“We have seen some amazing creativity and artistry in the table decorations,” Foy said. “People really get into their decorations, and it adds tremendously to the celebration. Jazz Fest promotes our community in a positive way and says a lot about who we are.”

Cash prizes of $300 will be awarded for the best table decoration and for the best food presentation.

Jazz Fest is set for June 7–8. Friday night’s performances at Strand Park will be by Gavin McCoy and the Coming Attractions; Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band; and The New Orleans Suspects. Saturday night at the Lake Martin Amphitheater will feature Ben Sutton; Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys; and Marc Broussard as the headliner.
