HBS softball wins area tourney

Published 10:33am Monday, May 6, 2013

In what some may have considered an upset, the Horseshoe Bend Lady Generals swept through the Randolph County Lady Tigers to win the Class 2A Area 7 tournament.
Horseshoe Bend won game one handily by a score of 9-1.
K-Rae Blasingame pitched the entire game for the Lady Generals, striking out four batters and allowing only two hits.
The Lady Tigers’ lone run was unearned.
Ranley Clayton led the Lady Generals at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Erin Vickers and Sydney Meadows each had two hits.
In game two, Blasingame again went the distance, but only struck out one batter.
Alana Story was 2-for-3 in the game, and she was responsible for a two-run double that ended up being the game winner for Horseshoe Bend.
“We played some of the best ball that we’ve played all year,” said HBS head softball coach Kim Vickers. “The girls played to their potential, and they had it in their minds that they wanted to beat Randolph County and prove that they were the better team. When Randolph County beat us earlier in the year, I told that they were not a better team than us.”
Horseshoe Bend will play either Isabella or Reeltown in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
