Take pride in our graduates

Published 11:10am Thursday, May 2, 2013

It doesn’t seem too terribly long ago that I was celebrating my graduation from Benjamin Russell High School.

I was overwhelmed by support from my family, which turned graduation into such a memorable event – my extended family all attended the ceremony at the Sportplex stadium and had a graduation party beforehand for family and friends of my family.

As many parents, grandparents and other relatives will soon be, my family was so proud to see me graduate and begin the next phase of my life.

The Class of 2013 graduations are rapidly approaching for all of our local high schools, and The Outlook wants to help your families honor our soon- to-be graduates.

Every year, The Outlook helps with printing the BRHS school newspaper, The Cinder.

The Cinder’s printing is paid for through ad sponsorships from local businesses, family members, friends, pastors, dance instructors, scout leaders or anyone else who would like to congratulate an individual or group in The Cinder’s special graduation edition.

The Cinder will be distributed not only at BRHS but also inserted into an edition of The Outlook so that even more people will see your congratulatory message.

The Outlook and The Record will also separately print senior photos in the paper for each local high school’s graduation later this month.

Recent or baby photos are welcome on sizes bigger than a 2×4 (two-column-by-four-inch) ad.

All of these editions are a great keepsake for family and friends and can send a great message, encouraging our seniors to pursue a bright future.

The deadline for ad space in The Cinder is 5 p.m. today, and the deadline to be a part of The Outlook or Record’s senior editions will be May 19.

Getting a high school degree is a major accomplishment, and we want to do everything we can to show our graduates that we are proud of their achievements.

Whether our students pursue further education or join the military or workforce, having their high school diploma in hand will certainly help them make the next step in reaching their goals.

For more information about how to advertise in any of our graduation editions, please contact Advertising Director Tippy Hunter at 256-234-4281 ext. 15, email her at or stop by The Outlook office anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

We, as a community, look forward to celebrating these outstanding students.

Spears is general manager and managing editor of The Outlook.
