Lady Generals fall to Handley, 4-1

Published 10:16am Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Despite only allowing two earned runs, K-Rae Blasingame and the Horseshoe Bend Lady Generals were unable to generate any offense as they lost to Handley 4-1.
The Lady Generals offense was quieted for much of the game. Horseshoe Bend was held hitless until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Blasingame was able to keep the game close for much of the afternoon, throwing five strikeouts and only giving up five hits from the second inning on.
Down 0-2 entering the sixth, Horseshoe Bend dug itself into a hole too deep to crawl out of when a throwing error allowed two runs to score.
The Lady Generals threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Alana Story drove in Madalyn Argo with a single.
Sydney Meadows reached first on a bunt and advanced Story to second, but Ranley Clayton struck out to end the threat and the inning.
“We were struggling at the plate. It was just that simple,” Lady Generals softball coach Kim Vickers said. “The players said the pitching they saw was faster than they expected.”
The Lady Generals will be on the road for the rest of the week before facing Valley in the home finale.
“We’re focusing on finishing better than we started,” Vickers said.
