Bice Motors has been a fixture in the community since 1965, and owner Brian Bice, who took over the company in 1999, was recently named the Businessperson of the Year.

“I think any business that still has their doors open in this economy ought to get business person of the year,” Bice said.

Bice said he doesn’t know who nominated him for the award, which was announced at the chamber of commerce annual meeting, but he made a supposition as to why.

“We bring in a lot of business from outside Alexander City,” Bice said. “We do a lot of Internet and that brings in people from all across the country. So maybe that’s one thing.”

Bice said he also thinks they offer great customer service.

“(You have to) treat people the way you want to be treated and offer them the best deal you can and give them the best service possible,” Bice said. “Word spreads.”

Bice said he likes “most everything” about his job, which has a number of different facets.

“Every day is something different,” Bice said. “I don’t have a routine. I never know what my day is going to be like.”

Bice got his start in the automotive industry as a youngster – by age 10 he washing cars, working every summer at the mechanic shop opened by his grandfather.

“I’m just very proud of the award,” Bice said. “I’m just glad to be able to do business in Alexander City and be a part of the community.”
