Opening Day should have been about the children

Published 11:43am Friday, April 19, 2013

Dear Editor,

It was a sad day for Alex City youth baseball/softball leagues. They will never forget that day.

The police say it wasn’t planned, but we the people know it was.

They said Mr. Anthony (Chub) Buchanan was wanted on a non-violent felony charge – by the way he was treated, it was like he was a life-threatening, harmful predator.

The justice system is broken, and we know this. We are not against the arrest – only the way it was carried out.

We teach children to respect the law, they take tours of the police department and city hall – this should be a place for change and not the same barriers.

We are moving forward on change because the language that is used could target other children’s fathers that have past felonies. We want fathers in their children’s lives, and this should be a good thing.

There are some good law officers –not all are marked. Some are loving and kind, and when you find them, you will see the difference they make around children. It says a lot about the person.

I pray that we can keep something like this from being the talk of the town. T

his was supposed to have been about the children, but no one is talking about them, and that is the hurtful part because it was supposed to have been all about them.
