A local quartet of shooters has the 4-H National Invitational championship in their sights after winning the state of Alabama 4-H Skeet and Trap competition.
Tallapoosa County representatives Becca Cooper, John Chapman, Sam Cooper and Miles Landers beat out multiple teams during two-day competition this past weekend at the Red Eagle Skeet and Trap Club in Childersburg.
The foursome earned first place in the senior division skeet shooting competition and second place in the senior division trap shooting competition.
“This is the second time in three years that Tallapoosa County’s 4-H team has won the state competition,” lead coach Harry Ward said. “I’m proud of the team.”
The Tallapoosa County 4-H junior division skeet and trap team also performed strongly during the event. Team members Clayton Boone, Wilson Harris, Tyler Watts and Chason Channell won third place overall in the junior division state competition.
Individually, Boone secured second place finishes in the skeet, trap and overall competitions.
As for the senior division team, it goes on to the 2013 National 4-H Invitational, which will be held June 22 in Grand Isle, Neb.
“We’ve got a very good opportunity with the kids coming up,” Ward said. “We should place high during the competition.”
