Tigers eliminated from playoff contentionPublished 10:18am Tuesday, April 9, 2013
After dropping two of three games to Class 4A No. 8 Beauregard High School, the Dadeville Tigers have been eliminated from postseason contention.
The Tigers (18-15) were able to win the final game of the three-game series against by a score of 15-7, but lost game one at Beauregard 4-0, and a 3-1 defeat to the Hornets officially dashed the Tigers’ postseason hopes.
C.J. Tolbert got things off to a promising start for the Tigers as he reached base with a leadoff double.
He later scored thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Jack Stephenson, who went 1-for-2 on the day.
After that, the offense all but disappeared for Dadeville. Will Duffey and Logan Duck each had a hit for Dadeville, but the team couldn’t plate runs.
Tolbert also started the game on the mound for Dadeville.
The junior pitched the entire game, allowing three runs on seven hits.
He was able to keep Beauregard off balance for much of the afternoon, but the Hornets were able to get to him in the top of the seventh.
He allowed three hits and two runs in that inning. Coupled with Dadeville’s ineffective offense, that was enough to flatline the Tigers’ playoff aspirations.
Next for the Tigers will be a home doubleheader against Childersburg. Game one is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. today.
