Police spot wanted felon, make arrest at Sportplex field

Published 10:46am Tuesday, April 9, 2013

While Saturday marked the first day for local youth baseball and softball leagues, it also marked the last day a local man spent running from an existing warrant.

Minutes before opening ceremonies for the Alexander City Parks and Recreation baseball and softball leagues, Anthony Raymond Buchanan, 35, of Alexander City was taken into custody without incident, according to the Alexander City Police Department.

Buchanan was on Field 1 – where all teams were preparing to be introduced – when the arrest occurred.

Police said that the arrest was not planned to coincide with the opening ceremonies.

Authorities on the scene recognized him as a wanted man, and Buchanan was taken into custody and escorted off the field out of the right field exit.

Police said he was wanted for a non-violent felony charge, as he had an existing warrant out for theft by deception.
