CACC baseball, softball falls to Southern Union

The Central Alabama Community College Trojans have been rolling along just fine on the diamond, as the baseball team had run its most recent win streak to 10 games and the softball team had won 12 of its last 14 contests.
Games against Southern Union did not yield success for either team, as the Trojans (22-12) and the Lady Trojans (25-6) were swept this past Saturday. Recaps are as follows.

CACC baseball drops two of three to Southern Union
After winning game one of a three-game homestand against the Bison, CACC lost the final two games by scores of 5-4 and 6-5.
Gabe Dees took the loss in game two. The Trojans were down 4-1 entering the fifth, but knotted the game at four entering the eighth. The Bison scored in the top of the eighth and held off the Trojans from there.
Darius Reese continued to swing the bat well, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Blaine Miller was 2-for-4, scoring two runs and getting an RBI.
In game three, the Trojans blew a 5-2 lead as Southern Union scored four runs in the final three innings to overtake Central Alabama.
Bo Edwards collected two RBIs for the Trojans. B.J. Martin scored two runs for Central Alabama. Next for CACC is a 4 p.m. home game against Marion Military Institute today.

CACC softball downed twice by Southern Union
Lindsay Broome suffered her first loss on the year as a Lady Trojans comeback fell just short at Southern Union.
CACC fell behind 3-0 but scored three runs in the seventh inning to tie things up.
Southern Union scored in the bottom of the ninth. Broome (13-1) pitched eight and a third innings, allowing 11 hits and only striking out one batter.
Taylor Clinkenbeard went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Emily Miller also had an RBI. Broome’s fellow CACC ace Alyssa Kornegay also allowed 11 hits in a 5-2 loss to Southern Union in game two.
The Lady Trojans entered the final inning down 5-0. They were able to score two runs but couldn’t do any further damage. Carly Toretta plated both runs for Central Alabama.
Next for CACC on the softball field is an away doubleheader versus Chattahoochee Valley today. Game one starts at 1 p.m.
