Sunny Level Cutoff will close Monday

Published 11:35am Thursday, April 4, 2013

Though Sunny Level Cutoff was expected to be closed beginning Monday of this week, the public works department said the weather kept workers at bay.

Gerard Brewer, city engineer and public works director, said work should now begin April 8.

“Assuming everything goes as planned, work will start on Monday,” Brewer said.

As previously reported in The Outlook, the road will be closed in order to replace a 16-inch sanitary sewer main.  Brewer said this will completely stop the flow of traffic between AL-63 and AL-22 along Sunny Level Cutoff.

“The road will be completely closed,” Brewer said. “There is no way for us to detour (around the construction zone) – traffic will just have to turn around and go back the other way.”

Traffic will stop at the culvert between Voss Road and Mayfair Lane, near Osburne Road. Once construction begins, Brewer said the road should be closed for about a week.

Brewer said warning signs will be placed along the road once work begins. The public works department is asking that residents be patient throughout the construction process.
