Funeral service for Mr. Dawson Calvin Holman, Sr., 91, of Alexander City, were Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home.
Rev. Jerry Wheeles officited. Burial followed in the Hillview Memorial Park with veteran’s honors provided by the Alexander City Veteran’s Honor Guard.
The family received friends on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Holman, Sr. passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home. He was born on March 14, 1922 in Elmore County, Alabama to Tommy Watson Holman and Katie Frances Ficquette Holman.
He was a member of Calvary Heights Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and loved his church.
Mr. Holman served in the Navy for four years, serving in World War II, and Pearl Harbor, for 27 years he served in the National Guard, during this time he served in the conflicts of Vietnam and Korea.
He worked for Russell Mills #6 for 26 years as the Head Loom Fixer and Holman Floor Co. from 1963-1980.
He enjoyed being outdoors, bird hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his bird dogs, playing Rook with the senior citizens, and was an avid Alabama fan.
He was also a guide at Rock Fence and Five Star Plantation, a guide for Pat Dye, member of the Alexander City Veterans Honor Guard, and a Gideon.
Mr. Holman was a happy man who loved life, having family dinners, and spending time with his family who he loved dearly.
He will always be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Holman Denham of Alexander City; sons, Dawson Calvin “Bubba” Holman, Jr. (Nancy) of Alexander City grandchildren, Pam Liberto, Christie Talon, Jeflyn Ingram, Buffie Watts (Neal), Janel Holley (Scottie), Jenifer Everrett, and Joni Holman; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Jody Liberto, Forrest Reynolds, Alexis Ingram, Brodie Ingram, Haygen Ingram, Dalton Lucas, Rylee Lucas, Emma Kate Everett, Tyler Watts, Lauren Watts, and Lynley Watts; great-great-grandchild, Makenzie Reynolds; special niece, Britti Stoddard; and special sister-in-law, Charlie Dark.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Louise Britton Holman; daughter, Janie Holman Price; grandson, Jody Holman; his parents; sisters, Odesa Holman, Margaret Holman, Mareen Holman, June Odonald, and Frances Gilmore; and brothers, , Clifford Holman, and Randolph Holman.
He is survived by his only brother, Robert Holman of Opelik,AL..
