A late-game comeback fell just short for the Benjamin Russell Wildcats softball team as they fell to Marbury, 4-3.
Haley Milner pitched the entire game for Benjamin Russell (6-6, 0-1 in area).
“She pitched a great game for us,” BRHS head softball coach Tal Morrison said. “We struggled at the plate for the majority of the game.”
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
After being held quiet all night, the Wildcats’ offense finally responded in the final inning.
Chloe Owens got things started with a 1-out single.
After a sacrifice fly moved Owens in scoring position, Loren Bishop delivered a hit to score Owens.
Daniellen Pressley then drove in Bishop with an RBI triple to right field.
Carley Blankenship drew a walk, which loaded the corners. BRHS senior slugger Tatum Gandy rapped a single that scored Pressley, making the game 4-3.
A strikeout ended the Wildcats’ comeback.
“I’m very proud of how they fought back and had a chance to win,” Morrison said. “There’s a lot of ball left to play.”
