When the Troy Trojans and the South Alabama Jaguars tangle tonight in Sun Belt action, they’ll be led on the mound by two former aces of the Central Alabama Community College baseball program.
Tanner Hicks will get the start for Troy, while Jacob Noble will start for South Alabama.
Both Hicks and Noble are off to strong starts this year for Troy and South Alabama, respectively, as both have identical 3-0 records on the year.
Hicks holds the CACC school record for lowest ERA with 2.10.
Hicks also struck out 145 batters during his two years at CACC. Noble was right behind him with 144 strikeouts.
Noble is second in program history with 17 wins, and he is second in school history for most wins in a season (11).
Hicks said he was looking forward to pitching against one of his good friends.
“It feels great,” Hicks said. “I think we have the same mentality on the mound and we never really thought we’d get the chance to pitch against each other. He’s a very hard worker and I think of myself as a hard worker too, so we’ll see how it works out.”
Hicks added that he commuicates regularly with Noble.
“It was awesome,” Hicks said of being teammates with Noble. “We were the Friday and Saturday guys. We talk once or twice a week. He’s a great guy and a good pitcher. I can’t say enough good things about him.”
