The Benjamin Russell Wildcats lost two of three contests this past weekend.
Athens High School and Westminster blanked BRHS by scores of 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.
Sandwiched between those setbacks was a 10-0 smackdown of West Limestone.
The Wildcats are now 6-5 on the year.
Athens blew out BRHS 8-1 in their earlier meeting this season, and BRHS boys soccer coach Sammy Teel said the team showed improvement in the second contest.
“We are never satisified with a loss,” Teel said. “But we played a lot better against them than we did in the first game.”
Grant Hudson notched a hat trick for the Wildcats against West Limestone. Richie Bradshaw scored twice, Blake Chappell scored once and John Lucas scored once as well.
That offensive explosion didn’t carry over to Westminster as despite out-shooting them 21-3, BRHS didn’t score.
“We played really well but we just couldn’t find the back of the net,” Teel said.
BRHS is heading into area play now. The Wildcats’ next game is a road contest against Valley before returning home to face Trinity.
“The real season starts tonight,” Teel said.
