Birthday blessings for many

Published 12:21pm Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Julia Kilby Kison helps sort her “birthday presents” at the Tallapoosa Crisis Center Tuesday.

Kilby’s parents, Karen and Chad,  requested donations to the Bill Myers Backpack Food Program in lieu of presents for her first birthday.

The program serves needy children by discreetly placing food inside the backpacks of children on Friday afternoon, ensuring they receive weekend meals.

The program was named in honor of the late Col. Bill Myers and currently serves 53 students.
