ACPR treats seniors to Valentine’s Day tea

Dressed in their best hats, pearls and outfits, ladies in the Alexander City Parks and Recreation 50+ Program were treated to a special Valentine’s Day tea Thursday.

“I wanted to do a little something for the ladies again,” said senior activity supervisor Corley Holt. “It’s just a way for everybody to get together and celebrate.”

Holt said they have had Valentine’s Day celebrations in the past, and she wanted to revive the tradition with a tea party.

About 20 ladies were served tea, coffee, water and an assortment of light refreshments at Fairy Tale Parties & Adventures. They were also serenaded as they ate by Spencer Forbes, who played guitar and sang songs like My Girl and I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.

“Who doesn’t love good looking guys, roses and being serenaded?” Holt said.

A single long-stemmed rose was presented to each lady by Parks and Rec Director Sonny Wilson and maintenance supervisor Mike Goodwin while Forbes sang Two Dozen Roses.

And the event was a big hit.

“I sure have enjoyed it,” said Sara Jacobs. “I liked everything about it, especially the rose.”

“When you don’t have that special man in your life anymore, this is a good substitute,” said Brenda Forehand.

And Gail Waters summed it up.

“We feel loved today,” Waters said.

Holt said she hopes the tea will become an annual tradition.
