Lent begins with Ash Wednesday

The Rev. Rob Iler, rector of St. James Episcopal Church, performs the Imposition of the Ashes Wednesday in celebration of the first day of Lent.

In certain denominations of Christianity, Lent is an invitation to 40 days of renewal.

These 40 days serve as a time for Christians to prepare to take in the Good News of Easter though prayer, fasting, reflection and almsgiving.
