County worker charged with felony thefts

An Alexander City man was arrested Monday after an investigation into thefts at the C.J. Coley Courthouse Annex.

Jared Blake Sherrer, 29, of Alexander City, was charged with two counts of second-degree theft of property.

Second-degree theft of property is a Class C felony.

According to Lt. Jay Turner, ACPD began looking into the incident after a report was filed in January.

“We had a report on Jan. 24 of theft of medication out of a worker’s purse at the district attorney’s end of the building at the courthouse annex,” Turner said. “We set some cameras up and caught the individual stealing the medications and signed a warrant for his arrest.”

Turner said that another report was filed on Monday, which is why Sherrer received two counts.

Turner said that Sherrer was employed through the county and worked at the annex.

Sherrer was transported to the Tallapoosa County Jail and was released on a $10,000 bond – $5,000 for each count.
