House fire kills one

State fire marshal, sheriff search for cause of late afternoon incident

A Dadeville house fire that claimed one life is currently under investigation by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department and Alabama State Fire Marshal.

The fire claimed the life of Kenneth T. Caldwell, 81, of Dadeville.

On Thursday, Feb. 7 at 4:41 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting a house fire at 83 Smith Mountain Drive, Dadeville.

The Dadeville Fire Department and the Jackson’s Gap Fire Department responded to the fire.

Preliminary investigation reveals at the time of the fire, there were three individuals inside the residence.

Two of the individuals were able to escape from the house, but Caldwell was unable to escape and died as a result of the fire.

One of the individuals sustained smoke inhalation and was transported to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment and remains in good condition.

The residence was completely destroyed by the fire.

“I would like to commend the efforts of the firefighters and first responders,” said Sheriff Jimmy Abbett.
