Murder results in arrest of Waverly man

A Waverly man has been charged with murder following a shooting incident that left one dead.

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department received a call Saturday at 8:42 a.m. in reference to a possible shooting on Seals Street in Waverly. Authorities arrived on the scene to find Robert Lewis Black, 59, of Waverly, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Black was transported to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, where he later died.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Tracey L. Beavers, 39, of Waverly and put out a press release with his description

about 5:45 p.m. Saturday. Three hours later, Beavers was apprehended by the Opelika Police Department and transported to the Tallapoosa County Jail, where he was charged with one count of murder.

His bond was set at $50,000.

Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett thanked the Opelika Police Department and Tallapoosa County investigators for their work on this case.

“This was a great effort in law enforcement to quickly apprehend this suspect,” Abbett said. “Our investigators did excellent work.
