Lady ‘Cats down CHS

Behind a strong second half and 14 points from Jernika Russell, the Benjamin Russell Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Tigers of Childersburg 39-34.
The victory is the third straight for Benjamin Russell and improves the Lady Wildcats’ record to 11-8 on the year.
Chloe Owens was second on the team in scoring with nine points. Cookie Kelley added eight points.
Benjamin Russell fell behind early but closed the first quarter with two straight lay-ins to pull within one.
The second quarter was mostly in Childersburg’s favor, as a 5-0 run in the midpoint of the period allowed them to increase their lead to eight.
The Lady ‘Cats closed the deficit to within five and heading into the break down 25-20.
The Lady Tigers started the third strong as turnovers were converted into points by CHS. The stretched their lead to nine before Russell took over for BRHS.
Consecutive scores by Russell started a 10-0 run for the Lady ‘Cats, which ended up giving BRHS a 30-29 lead heading into the fourth.
Nikita Adamson increased the lead to four with a three-point play.
BRHS scored 15 unanswered points as Childersburg was scoreless from the six-minute mark in the third until a lay-up with 1:42 left in the fourth.
Owens would score on a lay-up and Kelley sealed the win with free throws.
