A new city clerk is on the way for Dadeville.

Dadeville City Council met in special session Tuesday to discuss the hiring of several people for positions that have recently come open – city clerk, magistrate clerk, firefighter and mechanic.

After 45 minutes in an executive session, the council voted on the positions of city clerk and magistrate clerk, opting to table the firefighter and mechanic hires until a later time.

The council voted to hire Mike Gardner as city clerk and Sandra Wyckoff as magistrate clerk.

Dadeville citizens at the meeting expressed their agreement with the hiring of Gardner, and city attorney Robin Reynolds said he thinks Gardner will do a great job for the city.

“We’re lucky to have Mike,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds said Gardner, who accepted the position Wednesday, has accounting experience with Russell and will present a monthly financial statement to the council as part of his job as clerk.

“I’m very grateful to the city council and the mayor for giving me this opportunity,” Gardener said. “I look forward to working with them in this job.”

The clerk’s position became vacant Jan. 25 with the resignation of Sharon Harrelson.

Wyckoff has previously served as the chief clerk for the circuit clerk’s office, and Reynolds said he thinks she will also do a great job.

The next regular council meeting will be Feb. 12.
